To determine the bagua (feng shui energy map) of your home or office in accordance with classical feng shui, you must find the “heart” or “center” of your home’s or office’s floor plan.

Don’t guess! It’s important to have an accurate measurement of the center or you will be applying the wrong feng shui remedies or cures.

There are several approaches to determine the center of a floor plan, but lets keep things simple and use my preferred approach to determining the center. One easy way to find the center of your environment is to evaluate the major or significant corners of your space that have a strong connection with the center of the home or office.

Here are the four easy steps to find the heart (center) of your home or office, using a simple floor plan as an example.

Obtain an accurate layout or floor plan of your environment.

By finding the heart of your home, you can then map out the bagua of your space and apply different feng shui remedies to improve the energy of your environment. Hope you find it easy to find the heart of your home!

When I first saw the feng shui bagua, I naively thought the 8 triparite symbols or “baqua trigrams” on the bagua were just a decorative figures for each of the 8 compass directions on the bagua itself e.g. Southwest. What I did not know, was that each bagua trigram and its respective direction is also linked to a family member and a part of the human body.

I don’t know about you, but I am personally really bad with directions and navigation! Throw in the complexities of Feng Shui, plus having to understand where and how to use a compass and knowing what kind of compass should be used, can be quite confusing!

Please don’t make the same mistakes I made when I first started studying Feng Shui. I tried to “eyeball” and gauge directions and got it all wrong: I thought my bedroom was in the Northwest, so I applied the wrong feng shui cures and remedies! Big mistake!

When I first started practicing Feng Shui, I was a tad lazy and thought that I could cut some corners and do without a compass. After all, I can just “eyeball” where to place certain feng shui cures or solutions based on looking at the direction the sun was at, right? Nope.

I quickly found out that if I wanted to practice authentic Classical or Traditional Feng Shui, then it’s important to understand the origins of the compass. A major principle in boosting the energy of one’s space via Feng Shui involves accurate compass readings.
