Kitchens are one of the most important and complex spaces to evaluate in feng shui – it’s where your health and prosperity luck begins. Here are 5 feng shui kitchen tips to improve your luck:

1. Protect the Patriarch

If the head of the household is suffering from job instability, bad health, and other issues, evaluate where your kitchen and stove are located. Since the kitchen and stove represent fire, it’s not ideal to have a kitchen in the “heaven’s gate” or northwest sector of your home (fire destroys metal). This may severely impact the luck of the patriarch or head of the family.  The best way to remedy this is to move the kitchen or move to a new house. If this is not possible, move the stove at very least. Also, boost the chi of the northwest by placing a 6 or 7 rodded metal wind chime.

2. Keep the fire burning

Place the kitchen sink so that it’s not directly across from or next to the stove, as this symbolizes that water from the sink is extinguishing the fire and thereby impacting your prosperity. This also applies to water features such as aquariums, so don’t place them in the kitchen.

3. Don’t Flush Your Luck Away

To protect your prosperity luck from flowing away, use a decorative curtain, door, or screen to cover any view of a toilet or bathroom that can be seen from your kitchen or your stove. If the bathroom is above the kitchen and/or the stove, it is best to avoid using that toilet completely if possible. Keep the toilet seat covered at all times, place a big stone on the toilet tank, and utilize earth tones in the bathroom area as a cure.

Also the kitchen ideally should not be located too close to your main door as this may cause family disagreements or weight and dietary issues. Put up a screen or curtain in this case as well.

4. Harmonize it

If you have a fridge that is located across or next to your stove, consider placing some type of separation such as a thick cabinet wall between the fridge and stove to balance the water and fire energy between these two appliances. Knives should be put away. This is particularly true if you are currently displaying them in the east sector as this represents your prosperity luck getting chopped off. Also, make sure that your dining room is separate from your kitchen.

5. Clean and Nourish It

Your kitchen should always be kept clean and filled with with fresh and healthy foods to signify the cultivation and nourishment of your health and well-being. I just simply love displaying a nice colorful bowl of fruits and vegetables on my kitchen counter to remind me of abundance and wealth. Maintain good lighting in the kitchen to activate the flow of chi. Regularly check the freshness of your food. Keep the kitchen clutter free to allow energy to flow.

The kitchen is not only one of my favorite rooms in my home, but also one of the most important rooms in feng shui. It’s where we spend a lot of time with family cooking and building our health and wealth. I hope you find these few tips helpful and feel free to comment on any other questions or tips you have!
